Space Rentals on Hunter College Campus

Clients can rent spaces on campus directly from the school website’s homepage.

Hunter College offers space rentals on campus for faculty and staff, student clubs and external clients. Spaces such as auditoriums, cafeterias, classrooms, and the lobby are available for rent to the public.

The website with information on rentals features flowery and detailed descriptions of various locations on campus, including potential uses for the spaces. The location, proximity to public transportation and views of New York City are the school’s selling points.

Hunter College is the only school out of all 11 CUNY Senior Colleges with the option to rent displayed on the homepage. The button is featured on the top right hand corner. Anyone looking to rent has to fill out a request form, and could expect a response within three days. Information regarding the cost to rent is not provided on the website.

Ashley Sealy, a Hunter College senior, was aware that the school rented spaces on campus to the public. “My main concern would be safety because I am not sure if the people who enter campus…are checked for anything that may endanger the student’s safety,” she said.

Last May, the Hunter College gymnasium was rented out for a party hosted by the fashion company Gucci. Social media and gossip informed students of the festivities. Many students were surprised to hear that celebrities were on campus.

This event at Hunter College made many students aware that their campus was made available to an external party. The use of revenue from space rentals is not disclosed.
